Brandon Smith gave his first lesson in 1991 during the first off-season of his professional baseball career. He has been working with players of all skill levels and abilities ever since then. Having played 3 seasons in the Oakland A's minor league system and two with the NY Mets minor league affiliates, he learned from some great coaches and teammates. However, working with individual baseball players for over 30 years has given Brandon vast experience on how to communicate the finer points of the game to baseball players at all levels. Communicating with players in a way that makes sense to each individual person is paramount when it comes to getting complex ideas across. Brandon is very good at making the complicated simple. When players understand the game in simple terms and movements, they are freed up to play the game. Too often players are trying to avoid making mistakes or overthinking when they should be playing baseball. Fear is an ugly monster that can be overcome by preparation and confidence. People sometimes confuse simple with easy. Baseball is not easy. However, the ability to simplify and master simple aspects of the game allows players to play baseball more freely, with confidence and to the best of their abilities. It takes work to become great at any endeavor in life. During each training session Brandon will pinpoint 1 or 2 concepts that he wants the player to work on their own in between lessons. The work outside of lessons pays huge dividends to the player's success on the field. One other fun fact about Brandon is that he had the pleasure of coaching his now grown children in their sports endeavors. He understands the dynamics of parents working with their own kids in sports. It's not always easy but it is always worth it! Enjoy the journey!
